Annabelle had gotten up early and stared at herself in the mirror for a long time, trying to prepare herself for one of her first days as a student at McKinley high. The whole ride on the plane had been awful only two days ago, and she still wasn't quite sure if the jet lag had worn off or if she just wasn't feeling it because of her nervousness. Either way, her outfit was simple enough and classy.. or at least it was in the northern part of London. Her hair was neatly done in a sort of ruffled look that took her about an hour to "perfect", mostly because she wasn't sure she wanted people to actually think she was some sort of priss. If only there was a happy medium between being too stylish and being too drab.
The road to school was long, and even though she didn't have her license, just looking out the bus window made her uneasy. Of course, the people sitting near her didn't help. As soon as she was able to get off the bus, she was the first one to run to the front and escape that screaming metal death-trap and all it's.. weird nature. The first place she went, without even examining the grounds or giving herself the time to, was the office. She wasn't late, but she certainly didn't want to be caught off guard when she had to change classes and didn't know where to go. As she approached the desk, the secretary smiled up at her and spoke sweetly. "Hello, how can I help you?"
Just answering the woman made Anna feel that much more out of place. "I'm Annabelle Schwartz, the new student. I need my schedule." She said softly, trying to hide her thick English accent. The Secretary smiled and removed herself from the desk to go fetch it, leaving Anna to stand there in the office with a rather embarrassed look on her face. This school was definitely going to be an experience for her, she could just feel it.

A loud, constant, and very irritating beeping sound emanated from Hayley's alarm clock. Rolling over in her bed, she felt around on her bedside table with her eyes closed until she found the snooze button. Sighing in relief as the noise ceased, she felt herself just beginning to drift off to sleep again when a realization struck her:
Today was the first day of her junior year at high school.
As this thought was crossing her mind, she was already sliding off the bed and heading over to her closet. Swinging open the light doors, she flipped through the dresses that were hanging up in front of her. Finally settling on a strapless pale pink one that ended around the middle of her thighs and was decorated with a couple of ruffles and buttons here and there, she spun around and flounced off to her bathroom.
An hour later she emerged, a tiny white cardigan covering her shoulders and her face glimmering with freshly applied makeup. Adding a final dab of lip gloss to her rosy lips, she selected a purse from her collection and pranced down to the kitchen. Grabbing a mini-cup of yogurt, a banana, and her sunglasses which were laying on the counter, she slipped into a pair of cute flats, fished her car keys out of her bag, and headed out to her silver Mazda 6.
Fifteen minutes later and she was pulling into the student parking lot at McKinley High, Katy Perry's latest song blasting through her speakers. She knew she was probably attracting some looks from other students and teachers, and that was precisely what she wanted. Pushing her sunglasses up into her straightened blonde hair, she stepped out of the car, locking it behind her, and headed toward the school. Head high, back straight, and striding confidently forward, she wasn't worried about people looking at her in the slightest.
As she passed the office, she noticed an unfamiliar girl standing at the front desk. She could only see her back from the angle she was at, but none the less she assumed that this was going to be a new face. After a moment of contemplation, she pushed open the swinging doors and headed toward the new girl.
"Hi, you must be new! I'm Hayley," she introduced herself, flashing the girl a bright smile and offering her her hand to shake.

It was seven in the morning, Hallie doesn't have a habit of sleeping in until she could barely make it to school; so she was already up. She stretched out a bit beside her bed, and did some sit-ups and push-ups. This was the morning of her first day of High School, she wasn't particularly excited.
She was living in her uncles small house, as her parents are worked in Taiwan across the oceans. She was content where she was living, all she cared about was that it was only a few blocks from school and she had her own room.
"Are you ready for school?!" Her uncle asked in a thick Chinese accent from the hallway, "Just about! Give me a few seconds!" Hallie said loudly so her uncle could hear down the hall, she had no Chinese accent because she had practice speaking English for years even before coming to America.
"Breakfast is ready!" Her uncle said again, Hallie quickly pulled on a navy blue tank top and a pair of faded blue jeans. She simply combed her short dark brown hair, and out her room she went.
"Do you want me to drop you off at school?" Her uncle asked while eating his pourage.
"It's fine" Hallie said simply without looking up, she was focusing on finishing her eggs and bacon. "Are you embarrassed because of my English? I promise I won't embarrass you!" Her uncle asked jokingly. "It's not that, Uncle. Driving a car to school when we are really close to it is wasting money; besides, I have a bicycle." Hallie said and put the last bit of the egg in her mouth and swallowed.
"Okay! Uncle, see you later." She said and she went out the door and hopped on to her bike, which she had bought with the allowance she had saved up. It only took a good fifteen minutes or so to get to her school, she locked her bike securely on the bike racks.
Well, here we go. She thought and went in the doors, without really noticing anyone in school. She walked right into the office, and noticed two girls there; "Is there a line or something?" She asked looking at the two students, her voice wasn't nervous, or excited, or angry. Her voice was emotionless, that was how her old friends would have described it. "Oh, I'm Hallie, by the way." She said, and without further explanation, she reached her hand out.

If there ever was a time that Anna felt like a fish out of water, it was now when she was left alone as the woman went to retrieve her schedule. It was a good thing the woman hadn't looked at her weird when she'd spoken, it just would have made her feel that much more insecure about speaking. Maybe this wasn't going to be as bad as she thought, maybe some people would actually think it was a pretty good trait to have. She would be unique wouldn't she? Well, depending on how many other accents were around the school.
Feeling a little better about herself, she turned around a moment to suddenly have another girl staring her in the face. It was like hitting a brick wall, her eyes widening and a small look of fear on her face as she stared at the other. "Hi, you must be new! I'm Hayley." Escaped the girls lips, a small glance being to the girls hand that was extended in her direction. A part of her wanted to take it, but the other portion that was the biggest made her stand there in shock and become uneasy about what to do next. Should she take her hand? What.. could happen if she didn't? Or did..
Before the decision could even be made, another girl was walking in and another question was being thrown in her direction. "Is there a line or something?" One girl was fine, but two? What was Anna going to do about either of these girls, who seemed to be anxious to meet her. Well, it was different from being an outcast, but at the same time now she was beginning to feel completely cluttered and taken over. The butterflies in her stomach made it taught and upset until in the distance, she heard the secretary call her name again. "Annabelle Schwartz, here is your schedule." And after she had taken it, it wasn't long before she was trying to brush past the two women. Sure they were both talking to her, but all this attention was making her completely uneasy. "I'm sorry, excuse me." Anna said softly as she tried to move past the two of them, and out the door of the office.

As the girl turned around to face Hayley, she seemed to freeze in shock for a moment. Her eyes widened, and Hayley felt her brow furrow the tiniest bit. Did she have something in her teeth? Or maybe her hair had gotten messed up on the car ride over, due to the wind. Whatever the matter was, the other girl pretty much looked like a deer in headlights.
After a moment of silence Hayley felt her mouth beginning to twitch, a laugh of some sort forming in her throat. What was up with this chick? She managed to keep her composure, however, and she swallowed the bubble of laughter that had threatened to escape from her mouth. Her hand had dropped to her side at this point, realizing that it probably wasn't going to be taken in greeting. Keeping the smile, she waited for the girl to react.
Suddenly, the door to the office opened again, and someone else walked in. Another girl, who Hayley believed she may have seen around town before, but never officially met.
"Is there a line or something?" Her voice was expressionless; flat. She introduced herself as Hallie and offered her hand. Hayley shot her a strange look, not bothering to give an answer her question, and ignoring the hand she had held up.
"Hayley Wentzell,"
she said, giving her name in return. Just then, the secretary returned and handed the other girl - Annabelle, as was announced - her schedule. She still hadn't spoken a word, and she was already making her way toward the door. When she excused herself as she passed by, Hayley thought she caught a bit of an accent, though it was hard to tell as she spoke so softly. Shooting Hallie a wondering look, she followed Annabelle out into the hallways, which had gotten considerably busier as the official beginning of the school day began. "So, Annabelle, right? What grade are you in?" Hayley asked, still smiling. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Hallie put her hand down as Hayley obviously wasn't going to give her a handshake. Before she could say anything else, Hayley went after the other girl.
Interesting people... She thought and turned her attention to the lady behind the office desk, "Hi! My name is Hallie Shin, and I'm a new student here! I would like to have my schedule please."
"Alright, wait one moment please!" The lady said and started to work on the computer. Hallie sat down on for a few minutes on one of the seats that was available in the office.
She looked around the office, it was very well organized. She looked at all the pamphlets were available.
Transfer, class switch....hmmmm....McKinley High Sports/Clubs Registry!
She took the pamphlet that listed all the sports and clubs you can join, "Miss Hallie Shin?" The lady called.
Hallie was still reading and did not realized that her schedule was ready. "Miss Hallie Shin!" the lady called trying to be loud and clear this time.
"...uuhh...oh! Sorry! Thank you!" Hallie said while taking the schedule from the lady. She put her pamphlet in her bag, she'd have to look at it later.
Let's see....first class is.....English.. She thought looking at her schedule while walking.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Just before she'd received her schedule, she'd heard both of the girls speak of their names, Hayley and Hallie. 'H' names must be common around these parts, especially since the first two girls she met had them. Coincidence? As she brushed past them, she escaped through the front door of the office and sighed as she reached the hallway. It had taken a lot more time then she'd wanted it to, getting her schedule and all. And being bombarded by people didn't exactly make her feel any less uneasy. Now the hallways were crowded and she was stuck squeezing her way through them, trying to find her way around with a small map that the receptionist had slipped to her with her schedule.
Just when she thought she was scott free from those people, as she pushed past a few students she heard another voice chirp from behind her. "So, Annabelle, right? What grade are you in?" A few thoughts past through her head, trying to think of what to say to the girl, or even if she should say anything. At her old high school, the first impression was always the most important. If she was caught talking to the wrong girl, who knew what her reputation could be here. Then again, did Anna really worry about all of that stuff? No. "Umm.. Thirteenth year." She spoke softly, pursing her lips as she tried to look occupied with her map and schedule. Where was the English room that it said she was suppose to go to?!
"I mean.. So..phmore." She tried to correct herself, the English accent giving her an awful time with the word. If it hadn't been for the slight pre-research that she'd done on the Americas before coming there, it would have been a little more confusing.. especially with the grades and whatnot.

When Annabelle first replied to Hayley's question, she was a bit confused. Thirteenth year? She counted through school years in her head, realizing that in order for someone to be in "thirteenth year" they'd be out of high school at this point. She assumed that it must mean something different, and that maybe wherever the girl had moved from they started school at a different age or something. Hayley opened her mouth to ask where she was from when Annabelle spoke again.
She spoke so softly, Hayley actually had to concentrate to hear her. She could definitely detect an accent now; British? She wasn't positive. She wasn't very familiar with different accents as it was, so it wasn't as though she'd be able to pinpoint where Annabelle was from.
Oh, Sophomore. So she was one year younger than Hayley. Hayley nodded and smiled again. Looking over at Annabelle, she noticed that she seemed to be having difficulty figuring out her schedule; she looked a little confused. Trying to glance at it out of the corner of her eye, Hayley thought she knew where most of the rooms were.
"Do you need some help with that? I can show you around if you want,"
she offered, still acting all chipper and friendly. She wanted to be the first person seen with the new girl, and she needed the opportunity to determine what sort of person Annabelle was anyways; to try and figure out which social group she would belong to. This is…the English room…. Hallie thought while she stood a few feet in front of the door to the classroom, she had came just a few days ago to familiarize herself with where everything was, but she still had a map just incase she does get lost.
She cracked the door open just a slight to peek in, she looked at her watch. fifteen minutes before class starts…might as well go grab a good seat… She thought, just as she was about to go in she heard the two girls that was in the office with her coming this way.
What are the chances? She thought amusingly and smirked at the thought of having the class with these two girls. She didn’t dislike the two girls at all, she really didn’t; but at the same time, she knew she never made a good impression the first time talking to people. She was sure that the two girls either think she was weird or already made up their mind that she was a girl they shouldn’t associated with. She didn’t blame people for doing this, the problem really was her; I mean the way you talk and stuff does say a lot about who you are, and she doesn’t exactly sound chirpy or excited.
She must have made the girl that left early overwhelmed, or why else would she leave in such a hurry? She opened the door, and went in. She grabbed the seat that is close to the door, but also has a good view of the front of the classroom. She rested her head on her hand and started to doodle on her notebook while she waited for the class to start.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The silence that followed her first comment made her uneasy, more uneasy then the silence that came after she spoke that it was her sophomore year. Everything this girl was doing just made the butterflies flap harder in her stomach, it beginning to churn as if she were to get sick. Of course, it would pass as soon as this meeting was over but as long as the girl stayed next to her, she would try and keep her eyes down and away from her face. It wasn't long before she heard her speak again, her body tensing softly when the voice came to her ears before giving her a rather odd look. "Do you need some help with that? I can show you around if you want."
For a second she stared, then blinked and stopped walking all together and found herself being run into by another passing student before she molded herself against the wall quickly. How should she answer such a question? Should she tell her she had no idea where she was, or where she was going.. or try and figure out for herself, be late and excuse herself for being new. One was rather embarrassing to admit to, but the other one would just make her look more like an idiot. "I.. suppose. I don't really know.. how to hold this map.. Could you.. show me where we're at?" Her voice became a bit louder, the British accent getting a slight bit deeper. It was hard to hide an accent, unless you were softly speaking to someone.
Giving a rather muffled and nervous sigh, she glanced down the hallway to see the other girl she'd seen in the office. She probably knew where she was going, probably looked at her schedule and saw the whole thing in her head and knew where to go. Unlike Anna who was struggling to just hold her map right, and talk. This new school year seemed like it was going to be just wonderful. Especially how it was going right now.

Hayley nodded, still smiling, and leaned over the map. After a quick scan she found the hallway they were standing in, by the main offices, and pointed to it with a perfectly manicured fingernail.
"That's where we are right now; see, those are the main offices. And this is the hallway we're in. What class are you looking for?"
she explained, following up with a question. Brushing her bangs out of her eyes, she reached into her pocket to check the time on her cell phone. They had about fifteen minutes until classes began; ample time to show the girl to her class and socialize a bit. While she waited for Annabelle to reply, Hayley glanced down the hallway, waving to people that she knew, calling out short greetings to those she was closer to, and blatantly ignoring those who she deemed not important enough to acknowledge. That's how Hayley was; if you were high in social status, you were worthy of her company. Otherwise, you may as well not even exist. notes; ugh, sorry it's so short! Hallie was bored of doodling, but couldn't think of anything else to do. Has the girls not come in yet? Should I go out there and help them out? She paused for a second, then figured that they must be socializing out there. It's still early! They might not even be in this class... She thought even though she hoped that's not the case. If they were in her English class, at least she knows someone even if they don't seem to be very fond of her.
She looked at her watch, there was still time. She took out a book to read, there was simply nothing to do. First day's going well, at least I wasn't late to any of my classes...or class......yet... She thought and started reading. If my English teacher sees me reading a book before class even starts, she might even think that I am a smart and hardworking student... she was amused by this idea, of course she already wasn't a lazy student; English isn't her favorite subject though, she'd settle with a B in that class.
She had made up her mind to bring a book everyday, but she figured that the teacher is probably smart enough to know that kind of trick. She did like reading though, so it was still worth trying.
She had all of a sudden remember the paper that has the clubs and sports team offered listed, she took out the paper and quickly look through all the clubs and sports team offered to the students to join. Using a blue pen, she circled Art Club, Martial Arts Club, Basketball Team, Track and Field Team, glee club, and a number of other clubs. She then put a star next to the ones she wanted to join the most, and it was Art Club, Martial Arts Club, Basketball team, and the Track and Field Team. She then fold the paper two times and put it in her pocket, she went back to reading.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Feeling the girl close to her, she leaned back slightly from the map just slightly until she felt awfully crowded which was soon after she was in her face. It took a little for Hayley to find where they were, but soon the finger was pointing toward a certain hallway on the map. "That's where we are right now; see, those are the main offices. And this is the hallway we're in. What class are you looking for?" And that's when Anna's mind went blank. For a moment, she kind of stopped in her tracks and stared out at the hallway for a moment seeming to act as if she were a deer in the headlights of a semi. It literally lasted about five seconds before she looked to the girl and pursed her lips, trying to fumble between two papers. One being the map and the other her schedule, trying to flip between the two without actually putting one behind the other.
Anna's eyes weren't horrible, but her prescription glasses were for reading since she was near-sided. Of course, she couldn't just whip them out of her bag like a magician so she proceeded to push the paper slightly toward her face and squint. "I believe.. it says Sophomore English in room 2015." The confidence in her voice was non-existent, but at least the shakiness in it was beginning to fade as she continued. After she'd successfully read what class she'd be going to, her eyes drifted back toward Hayley and began to chew her lip slightly in nervousness. Everything was going to blow up in her face today, she was sure of that. Everything was going to be embarrassing and she was going to make a fool of herself at least once.
"Sorry.. How much time do we have until class begins?" She asked, noticing the girl checking her cell phone. It was a bit rude, but also a nervous thing that Anna tended to do. She never wanted to be late, especially today when she could look like an idiot. Probably make a bad impression and be cast out the first day.
